NO DEAL AGREED BUT IBRA COULD YET STAY AT MİLAN – RAİOLA

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola has suggested that the striker could yet sign an extension to stay at Milan, while dismissing suggestions that talks have stalled for financial reasons.

Ibrahimovic rejoined Milan at the start of 2020 and had an immediate impact on the club’s fortunes.

The Rossoneri languished in 11th prior to Serie A’s winter break but recovered to finish in sixth and clinch Europa League football, thanks in large part to Zlatan, who came up with 10 goals in 18 league appearances to engineer a remarkable improvement in form from January onwards.

The 38-year-old’s future has nevertheless been in doubt, having held out on signing an extension to his short-term deal which expired at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

But while he is unlikely to make a personal appearance at the first round of negotiations, Raiola believes that an agreement could well be struck at San Siro to keep him at the club.

“I don’t think he’ll be at the Milan meeting on Monday. His renewal? We’re in a good place should it come,” the agent signalled to Sky Sport when asked about Ibrahimovic.

“We are discussing [the contract]. We don’t have a deal yet. I don’t think it is an economic issue, rather one of convictions and style. I don’t think [Milan owners] Elliott can turn it into a question of money.

“It takes two to make a marriage. If Ibra didn’t want to stay, there wouldn’t be any talks. Instead, we are talking.”

As well as the veteran Swede, Raiola also manages the affairs of fellow Milan star Gianluigi Donnarumma, the highly rated goalkeeper whose deal is up in the summer of 2021.

“I haven’t spoken about Gigio and I don’t plan to,” the agent added.

“I know how delicate an issue this is for the Milan support and the whole club. It is not the time, there are other priorities for us and for the club. We will see what the player’s decision is. “

Raiola also admitted that he was looking forward to seeing how Andrea Pirlo acquits himself on the Juventus bench after replacing Maurizio Sarri as coach following their Champions League defeat at the hands of Lyon.

“It is a nice surprise,” he explained. “I think that [club chief Andrea] Agnelli is trying to do something spectacular and revolutionary.

“That does not mean he is not the right trainer for the team. Of course, if Pirlo’s Juve play with the talent he showed, amen to that. Guardiola will have to hide!”
